How to use a template from the Thinkr templates library

The templates library is a public set of PRD, strategy, and deck templates — each one shipped with the section-by-section rubric a Thinkr critique actually checks for. This guide covers browsing it, starting a document pre-loaded with one, and saving your own version for your org to reuse.

Before you start

You don't need a Thinkr account to read a template. The full structure and every rubric block are on the page. You need a free account to download the .md file, to apply a template inside the product, or to save a custom version to your org.

Step 1, Find a template

Open usethinkr.com/templates. Templates are grouped into four categories in the left index: Specs, Strategy & Discovery, Launch & GTM, and Stakeholder Comms. Click a category to filter, or use the search box to find one by name.

Each card shows the template's kind (PRD, Deck, or Doc) and how many review passes its rubric draws on. Click a title to open it.

Step 2, Read the rubric before you use it

Every template page has the same shape: the full structure first, then a Section by section breakdown. Each section carries a rubric block, What review checks and How this fails, drawn from the same passes Thinkr's critique runs on a real draft. Read these before you fill anything in, they're the fastest way to see what a reviewer will actually push back on.

Further down, a Worked example shows two or three of the highest-risk sections filled in, including one deliberate weakness called out afterward, so you can see what a stated known-unknown ([TBD: reason, date]) looks like next to a genuine gap.

Step 3, Use it

At the top of the page, the action bar has two options:

• Download .md saves the template as a markdown file you can fill in wherever you write. It asks you to sign in first, then the download starts on its own; the licence terms are at the bottom of the file.
• Use this template (or Build this deck / Review your draft, depending on the template's kind) opens the app with the template pre-loaded. For a PRD template, this lands you on the Coach step at /prd/new/coach with the template already selected as your PRD Template, so the four-step flow (Coach → Context → Draft → Publish) generates against this structure from the first pass.

Both are free on every plan, including the free tier. Using a template this way doesn't touch your org's saved template library, it only applies for the PRD you're starting.

Step 4, Save your own version (optional)

If you want to keep a modified version of a template for your team to reuse, that's a separate step, done inside the app rather than from the templates library.

Go to Brain → Standards and click New custom template. Give it a name and a one-line description of when to use it, then either write your instructions directly or use the Thinkr Assist bar to generate or analyze them from an existing document. Click Create to save it (the same button reads Save when you reopen the template later to edit it).

Saved templates are capped by plan, shown next to the New custom template button (for example, (2 / 5)), and count against your org, not against you individually. If you hit the cap, the button title tells you: "You've reached your plan's template limit — upgrade for more." Using a template from the library never counts against this cap, only saving one does.

That's the whole flow

Browse the library, read the rubric so you know what's coming, use the template to start a document pre-loaded with it, and save a customized version to Brain if your team will reuse it. The rubric travels with you either way, since it's the same eleven passes a critique runs on the finished draft.
